They're built around brand new GM ZZ 350 blocks, and with their 9.5:1 compression ratio and carefully chosen components, they should work just fine on the gasoline available from your local station. Starting with the ZZ 4-bolt-main block, you get a forged-steel crank, powdered-metal connecting rods, flat-top hypereutectic aluminum pistons, Performer RPM aluminum cylinder heads with stainless steel valves (2.02 in. intakes, 1.60 in. exhausts), a Performer RPM camshaft, a torquey Performer RPM intake manifold, and an 800 cfm Edelbrock Thunder Series AVS square-bore carburetor with an electric choke. You also get red anodized Crane-manufactured aluminum roller rocker arms, an Edelbrock aluminum water pump (where applicable), classy Edelbrock aluminum racing valve covers, high-quality ARP head bolts, an MSD Blaster 2 coil, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor specifically designed for these engines, a Milodon oil pan, high performance oil pump, and timing cover, a one-piece rear main seal, and an 8 in. harmonic balancer. The Performer 7102 camshaft has a 0.488 in. intake lift, with 0.510 in. for the exhausts. Intake duration at 0.050 in. lift is 234 degrees; the exhaust is 244. They have a "lopey" idle, and since they're tailored to the 9.5:1 compression ratio, manifold, and carburetor, they deliver impressive power from 1,500 rpm all the way to 6,500 rpm--with a hefty 410 hp and 408 ft.-lbs. of torque on tap. The icing on the cake is that some engines come with a brilliant Goodrich PermaStar polished finish on the cylinder heads, manifold, and (where applicable) water pump. Some engines come available without a water pump.
