Answer: Over heating implies the fan is not working and/or there is a lot of dust build up inside. Is the fan spinning?
- Replace the fan is actually easier than you might think, but it requires a bit of skill in disassembling the time machine extreme.
- If replacing the fan doesn't solve "air flow" problem.mm.Then you have either a sensor issue or your drive/SATA cable is having problems.
- I'm not against lubing the fan. But you need to be very careful! Oil is also a great dust collector so while you'll fix the fan today you'll set your self up for a full failure when the fan seizes up from the junk
