Scullcap is a perennial, reaching 15 to 50cm high. It is native to Asia. Roots are rather thin. Stems are usually cespitose, with dark purple or brownish green surface. Leaves are usually opposite, with short petiole 1.5 to 3cm long. The flowers are borne on pedicels that have tiny, sharp bracteoles. The fruits are oblate and light brown. Scutellaria Barbata grows in moist and wet places, such as paddy fields.
