Guccio Gucci, the founder of the Gucci Label, was born in Born in 1881. He was a Florentine dishwasher turned leather merchant who began selling leather travel bags. The family business prospered with their signature use of a flawed leather process called "cuoio grasso." The process left the leather with a ruffled surface and ultimately the world came to recognize the double G logo superimposed on top of the leather as the brand of Gucci.
