EXPLORE THE ROLE OF THE KIDNEY || Explore the role of the kidney in blood filtration and waste removal, and understand the structure and the functional tasks performed by nephrons
ACTIVITY || Create an artificial kidney model to filter simulated blood and visually determine whether or not filtration of the simulated blood occurred. Learners will then chemically test the resulting filtrate to detect any possible waste material that may have been removed by the artificial kidney
EXCELLENT FOR REMOTE LEARNING || Perfect for distance learning and home schooling - includes instruction manual, worksheets and enough materials for 2 groups of students. Makes an exciting home science project!
MATERIALS INCLUDED || Kit includes simulated blood, deionized water, dialysis tubing, plastic cups, pipettes, salt test strips, and urea test strips
INNOVATING SCIENCE || Innovating Science distance learning kits are designed to offer engaging activities and educational content to for teachers to use with small groups and to distribute to remote students, or for parents with learners at home. Kits incorporate applied math and science principles into home school and distance learning projects
Description
Learn the role of the kidney in blood filtration and waste removal along with the many tasks performed by the functional units of the kidney, called nephrons, as well as nephron structure. Students will create an artificial kidney model to filter a simulated blood solution, and will be able to visually determine if filtration of the simulated blood occurred. They will also perform chemical tests on the resulting filtrate to detect any possible waste material that may have been removed by the artificial kidney. Kit contains an Instruction Manual and enough materials for 2 groups.
Kit Includes:
10mL Simulated Unfiltered Blood
250mL Deionized Water
2 pieces of Dialysis Tubing
2 Plastic Cups
2 Pipettes
4 Salt Test Strips
4 Urea Test Strips
Instruction Manual
SDS Sheets
