Generally, the term adsorption refers to the binding of gases or dissolved substances to the surface of a solid or liquid. At constant temperature, the amount of substances adsorbed depends on the type of system studied and the partial pressure and/or concentration of the substance in question. The relationship is described through a series of adsorption isotherms. Competition should be investigated experimentally.
