The sE Electronics RN17 is a small diaphragm condenser microphone developed in collaboration with legendary audio engineer Rupert Neve. Combining the world's smallest production 15mm gold-sputtered diaphragm with a full-scale custom transformer, the RN17 professional microphone delivers exceptional balance, headroom, and clarity across the entire frequency spectrum, not just the highs.
At the heart of the RN17 calibration microphone is its ultra-precise cardioid capsule. Individually hand-crafted and tuned in-house, it provides exceptional consistency and transient accuracy, capturing delicate high-frequency detail while maintaining natural midrange presence and controlled low-end response. The result is a music recording microphone with sound that feels fast, open, and remarkably detailed.
The custom-designed Rupert Neve transformer, substantially larger than typical small diaphragm implementations, gives the RN17 overhead stage mic extended headroom and full-spectrum balance. Detailed mids, accurate low frequencies, and open highs combine to produce a sound that remains natural even in demanding recording environments.
Finished in matte black and supplied with a custom shock mount, the RN17 live sound and recording mic is built for professional studio and stage applications where precision, reliability, and uncompromising performance are essential.
For expanded versatility, an optional omnidirectional capsule is available separately, offering open, uncolored spatial capture with balanced response across the entire frequency range. When purchased as a factory-matched stereo pair, transformers and capsules are carefully calibrated to tight tolerances for precise stereo imaging and phase consistency. The matched set includes a stereo mounting bar, dual shock mounts, a wooden presentation case, capsule canisters, and a secure flight case.
