Mounted on the wheel, the wheel speed sensor tone ring is a ferromagnetic gear with hundreds of external teeth. When the wheel rotates, the ring rotates too. The teeth and gaps successively passing the sensor core tip cause fluctuations in the magnetic field near the induction coil, generating an alternating voltage signal.
