Tektites are a type of glass created from fragments of meteoroids or asteroids that have collided with the earth. Ancient and rare Billitonite, also known as Batu Satam, is a scarce member of the tektite family, found exclusively on the Island Billiton (Belitung) in the Indonesia Archipelago.
Billitonite was created about 790.000 years ago when a gigantic meteorite left a crater that is believed to be in the middle of the South China Sea nowadays. This meteorite caused the Australasian strewnfield with different rare tektites including Phillipinite, Javanite and Billitonite.
