Usage Instructions:
1. The unmarked terminal is the negative (-) terminal. The two terminals with color markings are the positive (+) terminals. The negative terminal is shared by both electrolytic capacitors.
2. Electrolytic capacitors left idle for extended periods (2-3 months) will exhibit significantly increased leakage current and heat generation if immediately subjected to rated operating conditions. Therefore, capacitors stored long-term require aging (activation) before normal use. This involves gradually increasing the voltage across the capacitor until reaching the rated voltage. For an electrolytic capacitor rated at 450V, follow these steps:
Initially apply 50V and maintain for 10 to 15 minutes. Subsequently, increase the voltage by 20V every 4 to 5 minutes to gradually raise the operating voltage. For safety, a 100K5W current-limiting resistor should typically be connected in series to prevent short-circuit damage to the power supply. The voltage across this 100K resistor can also be used to detect leakage current in the electrolytic capacitor. When feasible, an aging test can be conducted using an adjustable power supply with a 10mA constant current source. Under normal conditions, a functional electrolytic capacitor at rated voltage and room temperature exhibits a leakage current of 0.025 to 0.05mA per microfarad.
