Description

Discover the precision and heritage of this Japanese nata hatchet. Each blade is hand-forged by skilled blacksmiths, using a layered structure of hard carbon steel and soft iron, joined with the same forge-welding techniques used in traditional Japanese swordsmithing. This method is more complex and costly than making blades from steel alone, but it results in exceptional sharpness, easy resharpening, and shock absorption — qualities perfected over centuries of Japanese blade-making. The carbon steel forms a razor-sharp edge, while the iron core provides flexibility and resilience. After forging and sharpening, the blade receives a 1 μm ultra-thin black-dye coating, allowing the entire edge to be dyed black without affecting sharpness, for a striking and refined appearance. The handle is carved to fit the fingers, ensuring a secure and comfortable grip. Two blade types are available: Wide blade: For powerful chopping of thick logs. Narrow blade: Versatile for both splitting and finer tasks like feather stick making. When splitting wood, simply tap the back with another log — no hammer needed. A leather knife sheath is included for safety and portability. Made in Japan.
