hankh is the symbol of Goddess Lakshmi who is the Goddess of Wealth. It is said that Maa Lakshmi resides in this shankh. Shankh are of many kinds like Dakshinavarti Shankh and is basically conch shell of the species Turbinella pyrum. This shankh is kept in puja and is not blown.
