Description

During the local bot fly season — typically late summer into autumn — yellow bot eggs cement onto a horse's legs, shoulders, and flank, where a curry comb just slides over them. This bot fly knife is built for that one seasonal job: a serrated J2 stainless steel edge that catches and lifts the eggs from the hair as part of routine grooming. Designed for controlled one-handed use while the horse is securely haltered and handled by an experienced person, it has a shaped red wooden handle and full-tang, riveted construction, and stows in the grooming tote between uses. As a bot fly egg remover for horses, it does the part of bot fly removal a brush cannot — getting cemented eggs off the coat through the season. Wipe the blade after each use and store it dry between sessions. Made by Equine Care
