St. Michael the Archangel
St. Michael the Archangel is one of the most revered archangels in Catholic and Christian tradition. His name, in Hebrew, means "Who can be like God?" (Quis ut Deus), which was both his battle cry in defeating Lucifer in the Heavenly War and a symbol of his humility and loyalty.
In the classic image of St. Michael, the shield and sword usually appear together—he holds a sword (or spear) in his right hand and a shield in his left, wearing golden armor. The shield and sword together symbolize the power God bestows upon the saint and his sacred mission to protect those who trust in the Lord in times of difficulty.
