Xin Yi, Magnolia (Magnolia Lilliflora) is a shrub 2-3 (up to 5) m high with a spherical crown, with branches strongly intertwined, and covered with a light gray smooth bark. Leaves are elliptical or obovate, short and bluntly pointed at the apex, with a wedge-shaped base, dark green above, pale green below. The flowers are red on the outside and white or almost white inside. The fruit is a cylindrical, wine-red precast leaflet up to 9 cm long. Flowering period is in March - April. Fruiting season is in October -November.
