Special Features

  • Solid copper center conductor – compare with copper-coated steel in many other cables
  • 95% coverage tinned copper braid over foil shield – compare with 60% aluminum braid in many other cables.
  • Canare 3-piece crimp connectors offer better mechanical stability, non-corroding gold-plated center pin, and heavy machined brass threaded ground contact – superior on all counts to the usual compression-style F-connectors.
  • Rated CMR (superior to CL2, CL3 or CATV ratings); suitable for installation in walls and risers.
  • Assembled in our cable shop in Seattle, Washington.

Description

One might think that there isn't a lot of room to improve on simple CATV/Antenna/Cable Modem coaxial cable. But, in fact, the majority of cable and connectors used for these cables are chosen more for low cost than for high quality. A typical CATV cable uses a copper-coated steel center conductor, is shielded with a 60% coverage aluminum braid over foil, and is sweep-tested only out to 1 GHz, if that. The compression-style F connectors, though convenient for field installation, use the cable center conductor as the connector pin, causing uncertain engagement in jacks and susceptibility to corrosion. Our standard RG-6 cable is an improvement in all of these areas; it's a professional SDI cable with a usable bandwidth of at least 6 GHz, with a solid bare copper center conductor and a 95% tinned copper braid over foil shield. To this cable we attach Canare's excellent FP-C53 connector, which is a 3-piece crimp design instead of a compression design; it uses a gold-plated crimp pin as its center contact, firmly mounted in the connector body rather than just hanging out of the end of the dielectric, surrounded by a heavy-duty machined brass ground connector. The result is a more durable, more corrosion-resistant assembly, with better impedance stability for performance at all practical frequencies and bitrates.
