Description

This is the sixth addition to the Lunar New Year Series, issued on January 5, 1998 in Seattle, WA as a sheet of 20 32-cent stamps. Chinese-American artist Clarence Lee created a paper-cut image of each animal of the zodiac. This sheet features an image of a Tiger, calligraphy by Lau Bun that translates in English as "Year of the Tiger," and the greeting "Happy New Year!" The Lunar calendar in 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022 is symbolized by the Tiger the 3rd animal in a 12 animal cycle. Individuals born during the Year of the Tiger are believed to be courageous and strong, as well as generous and sensitive. They may be self-assured, but can also be hasty and unpredictable. Tigers are leaders and protectors; they are noble and honorable. See other items from the Chinese Lunar New Years series.
