The new G2 model maintains its compact size while expanding the wide end from 28mm to 25mm and preserving the 200mm telephoto range. It offers improved image quality and faster, more precise autofocus powered by TAMRON's VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism. With a maximum magnification ratio of 1:1.9 at the 25mm wide end, the lens also provides half-macro shooting.
Despite being an all-in-one zoom lens, the 25-200mm F2.8-5.6 G2 delivers consistently high resolution from wide-angle to telephoto, thanks to TAMRON's advanced optical engineering. It faithfully reproduces textures and fine details—even the subtle nuances of skin and individual strands of hair in portraits—with striking clarity.
At the 25mm wide end, the lens achieves a minimum object distance of just 6.3″” (0.16m) allowing for an impressive maximum magnification ratio of 1:1.9—an improvement over the 1:3.1 of the first-generation model at its 28mm. This allows half-macro shooting at the 25mm wide end and lets you get closer to your subject across the entire zoom range.
